Most people prepare for interviews by rereading their CV and hoping for the best. That's not preparation. Here's what actually goes wrong in the room — and how we fix it.
Rambling answers
You know the answer, but you can't land it cleanly. The STAR method, practised until it's automatic, fixes this faster than most people expect.
Freezing on curveballs
Unexpected questions feel catastrophic when you don't have a thinking structure. We build one. Then we test it with questions you haven't seen before.
Underselling your impact
Modest people describe what they did. Effective interview answers describe what changed because of what they did. There's a real skill in making that shift without sounding arrogant.
Weak closing and negotiation
The end of the interview matters as much as the start. So does the conversation about salary once an offer is on the table. Both are coachable.
What a preparation package includes
Recorded mock interviews
Sessions are recorded so we can review body language, pacing, and word choice together. It's uncomfortable at first. It works.
Panel interview strategy
Managing multiple interviewers at once is different from a one-on-one. We cover how to split attention, read the room, and make sure the right person remembers you.
Salary negotiation tactics
Practical approaches to the offer conversation — including how to counter without seeming difficult and how to handle multiple competing offers.
30/60/90-day plans
Walking into a senior interview with a concrete plan for your first three months is rare. It makes an impression. We build one that actually makes sense for your target role.
The preparation process
Assessment
We look at your CV, the target role, and your interview history. I want to know what's worked before and what hasn't.
Core skills intensive
STAR method, your career narrative, and the two or three stories you'll lean on most. We make these solid before anything else.
Full mock simulation
A timed, realistic mock interview tailored to your specific industry and role level. No softballs.
Debrief and refinement
We go through the recording together. I flag the specific moments that need work. Then we fix them.
"The mock interview was harder than the real one. I walked in feeling like I'd already done it."
Your experience may differ.
Frequently asked questions
What formats do you prepare people for?
One-on-one behavioral interviews, panel interviews, case study interviews, presentation-based assessments, and virtual interviews. If you have something specific, ask.
Do I need to prepare anything before the first session?
Send your CV and the job description you're targeting. That's it. I'll read both before we meet and come with specific questions.
How long before my interview should I start?
Two to three weeks is ideal for a proper preparation arc. That said, a single session the day before an interview is still worth doing — it's often more about calibration than new skills at that stage.
Is there a difference between coaching for tech versus other industries?
Yes. Tech firms tend to use structured behavioral frameworks like Amazon's Leadership Principles or Google's competency model. Consulting firms have their own PEI and case formats. The preparation for each is different. I cover all of them.
What if I freeze in the actual interview despite all the prep?
It happens less when you've practised properly. But if it does happen, we cover recovery techniques — how to pause, reset, and keep going without the interviewer noticing much.
Can sessions be done online?
Yes. Video sessions via Zoom work well. The feedback on delivery — eye contact, posture, pacing — is still visible and still useful.
